Well, here in our 'great' state of California, we are not opening our schools (at least in our school district) this upcoming school year. Our school district was offering a 100% online learning, or hybrid, which is only half days like four days a week, and kind of like a block schedule. Odd periods on these days, even periods on those days, etc. We said NO.
What we decided to do this year is online public school. It's through www.k12.com. Our school is CAVA, which is California Virtual Academy. It's a pretty popular platform, and it's recognized nationally, which is nice. We will be getting our kids' equipment and supplies via UPS within the next three to four days. They each get a laptop, a printer, and tons of work book assignments. Our oldest is even getting a microscope for Science class. Mom is excited, kids are excited (some nervous), and I am all for it.
As for me, Dad, I am back at work full time. I was able to take six weeks off of work to spend time with the family this summer, which was super nice. There's also a thing that I am starting in August called College!
Yes, that's right. College. I never thought I'd ever go. I tried college after I got out of the Army, I think I lasted half of a semester. Well, 14 years after high school, I am enrolled in College at Southern New Hampshire University. I'l be going for a Bachelor's of Science degree in Business Administration.
Thanks to m employer, I have this wonderful opportunity to attend online college for $1 a day. With the program I am in, it's about $360 a year. It includes all the books, graduation fee (yes, I was suprised to see that; they charge you to graduate), and other supplies. The program I'm in ususally costs around $38,000 for a four year program. So I am thankful the opportunity I was given.
So, within the next three to five years, I will no longer be just a dumb trucker. I'll be a trucker with a Bachelor's degree. It sounds weird to say, but I am excited. My first term doesn't start until August 31st, so now is the time where I need to figure out how to use my off time (only off ten hours between shifts), as well as my days off to do school work.
It's going to be an interesting journey. I hope it's easier than what my brain is telling me. If you all could pray for our family as this new adventure begins with the kids doing onlin public school, and me starting college, we'd greatly appreciate it.
